Two large anthropomorphic style 2700 years old geoglyphs were discovered in the Ocucaje desert, south of Lima, the local newspaper El Comercio published.
The figures were discovered a few days ago by Eduardo Gomez de la Torre, a Peruvian who conducts tours from the air in the region of Ica, famous for its large and numerous geoglyphs known as the Nazca lines.
After a glimpse of the new figures in the desert, Gomez de la Torre contacted specialists who confirmed, thanks to photographs taken by the Peruvian, that they belong to the new cultural period - Paracas Caverns, which unfolded in the year 200 before our era.
The figures represent several anthropomorphic characters with different feathers on their heads, and refer, according to preliminary investigations, to a ritual practiced by ancient men of the Paracas culture.
“These new designs have appeared after stong rains and winds that occur in the desert that in some cases, reveal hidden figures,” said Gomez de la Torre to El Comercio.
A similar case occurred two years ago, when another group of geoglyphs was found after the strong gusts from the desert uncovered it.
“Parallel to the study of these photographic images, we are calling on the authorities of the Instituto Nacional de Cultura of Ica to register these new geoglyphs and restrict access to their area,” said the pilot.
