Ica offers colourful countrysides, local wines, extraordinary desert dunes, the enigmatic Nasca Lines, the impressive natural landscape of the Paracas National Reserve and the Huacachina Oasis.
Places to Visit
• Huacachina Lagoon
A beautiful oasis 5 km (3 miles) from the city of Ica. Waters are full of sulphurous and saline minerals that give the lagoon therapeutic properties.
• Sanctuary of Luren
It keeps the image of the Lord of Luren – the city's patron saint - which is taken out in a procession at Easter and in the third week of October. The sanctuary dates back to 1943.
• Regional Museum
This important museum displays numerous and interesting artefacts from the various cultural periods of regional history. Pottery, textiles and evidence of medical practices by the Paracas and Nasca cultures are of particular interest.
• Wineries
Located in the countryside of Ica. A close look can be taken at the making of "cachina" wine and "pisco" (grape liquor). Among the most representative wineries are Vista Alegre, Tacama and Ocucaje. The wineries that still use traditional methods are Mejia, El Catador and Lovera.
• Dr. Javier Cabrera Stone Collections
Located in the Main Square, the building keeps a large collection of engraved stones with scenes of primitive life, dinosaur hunting and organ transplants that give rise to many theories and speculations about old regional civilizations.
